Extensive traces of old gilding, and slightly pitted on high points. The rarity of this mintmark and perhaps the attractiveness of this well struck coin has resulted in it being gilded in antiquity. I suspect this coin also featured in the 1903 Sotheby Wilkinson & Hodge auction - The Murdock Collection , because although not pictured , lot 745 was described as ''1604 mm lis, flan has been gilt'' Click on pictures for larger image.
